The Sweetest Tree in PA - the Sugar Maple

Did you know that Pennsylvania ranks fifth in the nation for maple syrup production? There are many different kinds of trees in Pennsylvania’s forests, but the sweetest tree is the sugar maple. The sap from this tree is used to make pure maple syrup. Sugar maple trees are unique to North America and grow naturally only in the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada. This makes maple syrup a very special product that we get from Pennsylvania forests.

Each spring, sugar makers across Pennsylvania are hard at work collecting sap from maple trees and boiling it down to make Pure Pennsylvania Maple Syrup. This process is steeped in tradition and varies in techniques used. One of the greatest mysteries of maple syrup is what causes the sap to flow out of the trees.

Attend one of the many Maple Sugar Festivals held annually each year in Pennsylvania and learn first hand how sap is harvested to make maple syrup and other maple products such as maple candies, mustards, and even maple cotton candy.
