Lancaster Mud Sales
Mud Sales are spring auctions that bring communities and visitors together in the middle of the Amish countryside. Hundreds gather both Amish and “English” (non-Amish), waiting for the first items to come up for bid. They start early, at 8:00 a.m.
Mud Sales are named such because they are held in the fields that are often muddy from the early spring thawing. So wear your boots. Mud Sales are huge events drawing as many as 20,000 people, where everything from hand-stitched quilts (made by Amish women’s groups) and locally made crafts to livestock, furniture, produce, baked goods, antiques, house wares, and more are all up for bid. Mud Sales are major fundraisers for the volunteer fire companies in traditionally Amish communities.
Come hungry because the food is awesome! Offering a sampling of hearty farm fare from Pennsylvania Dutch chicken corn soup to shoofly pie to sticky buns and much more. Held each weekend from March to June in local communities such as Bird-in-Hand, Honeybrook, Strasburg and Manheim. For a complete listing of Mud Sales click here.
