Appalachian Trail Museum, Gardners
Learn more about the history of this iconic footpath at the only museum in the country dedicated to hiking. Located in a renovated 200-year-old grist mill in Pine Grove Furnace State Park, changing exhibits and photo displays portray the trail's history. The museum is open seasonally from early April through early November, but you can hike the A.T. through Pine Grove Furnace State Park to the midpoint of the trail throughout the year. Admission is free.
Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum and Conrail Museum, Shippensburg
The Cumberland Valley Railroad Museum and the adjacent Conrail Museum serve as focal points for the Shippensburg Station trailhead of the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail. Located inside restored boxcars, the museums feature artifacts and archival materials explaining the role of railroads in Cumberland Valley's rich history. Enjoy a hike or bike ride along the 13-mile Cumberland Valley Rail Trail from Shippensburg to Newville during your visit. Admission is free.
