A Short Drive to Another World!
Are you tired of going to the same place for vacation? Take a drive and experience the magic of breathtaking scenery and small town charm of Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. Located in Tioga County, 52-miles northwest of Williamsport, Wellsboro was incorporated in 1830 and named in honor of Mary Wells, wife of one of the original settlers.
Wellsboro is home to the famous Pennsylvania Grand Canyon that offers hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails from flat packed surfaces to rugged mountain terrain. The 62-mile Pine Creek Trail, which travels along the floor of the Pine Creek Gorge, is one of the East’s best kept secrets. The Canyon is surrounded by nearly a million acres of state forests.
The Tioga-Hammond & Cowanesque Lakes offer 2,268 acres of water with 32 miles of shoreline. There are no limits on boat size or horsepower, but there are many quiet, no wake areas for fishing, canoeing, enjoying wildlife or spotting osprey. Several boat launch ramps are available as well as swimming and picnicking areas.
After a grand day of outdoor recreation, stroll the gas lit streets of Wellsboro where you’ll find family owned businesses offering an array of dining and shopping options. The outdoor recreation is always open and free, but you may want to plan your trip to attend one of the many signature events held annually in Wellsboro.
Every year in mid-June the community of Wellsboro celebrates the blooming of Pennsylvania’s State flower with the annual PA State Laurel Festival. The Festival was first held in 1938 as a way to help promote the magnificent Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. The festival includes a juried arts and crafts fair, queens pageant, firemen’s carnival, bicycle and foot races, musical concerts as well as the traditional two-hour Laurel Festival Parade.
Timeless classical masterpieces blended with contemporary compositions set the stage for the Endless Mountain Music Festival scheduled for late July early August. The festival features world-renowned guest artists, festival orchestra and chamber music concerts, solo recitals, performance previews and receptions with the musicians.
The annual Tioga County Fair will be held in August of each year at the Tioga County Fairgrounds located ½ mile off Route 6 midway between Mansfield and Wellsboro. Offering live entertainment, agricultural displays, demonstrations, amusement rides, food and more.
