Take a Snow Day at Roundtop, Whitetail, and Liberty Mountains
Winter isn’t over yet, all three of the region’s top ski resorts are just waiting for you to take a snow day. Liberty, Whitetail, and Roundtop are all located in the capital area of Central Pennsylvania, bringing thousands visitors from all over the state and Baltimore. The three ski resorts, managed by a group called Snow Time, Inc., each have their own unique features and are fun for the whole family as well as make a great location for a more active date with that special someone. These three locations are also available for ski and snowboard lessons so take advantage of the opportunity to either learn a new skill or improve it; Snow Time, Inc. won the National Ski Area Association’s 2011 Conversion Cup, an award given to the ski resort that introduces and improves the most skiers and snowboarders.
Roundtop Mountain Ski Resort is located in Lewisberry, PA, and offers outdoor fun and activities all year-long. This February, though, book a training class at Roundtop and learn a new skill that makes the winter season more exciting. Roundtop Mountain was rated one of the best places in the nation to learn skiing or snowboarding for its First Class Learn to Ski and Snowboard program. To plan for a great Learn to Ski or Snowboard Package, visit Roundtop’s website to view prices as well as download an equipment rental form. Roundtop has six beginner trails, five intermediate, and four advanced with an elevation of 1,355 as well as a fantastic collection of more than a dozen tubing lanes. An advanced snowmaking system and north-facing mountain made Roundtop possible and brought the cities of Harrisburg, York, and Lancaster a wintertime resort with snow tubing, slopes, and dining. Visit the website to check today’s conditions and weather, plan for upcoming events, and view the resort’s hours.
Whitetail Resort in Mercersburg hosts 23 trails, two terrain parks, a half pipe, and ten tubing lanes. Almost half of these trails are intermediate, and another third for beginners so Whitetail makes a good option for the middle-man of ski skills. The summit here is 1800 feet, with 109 acres. This is also a great location to take a lesson with Whitetail’s Discovery Program and Ski & Snowboard School, ranked first in the country in 2011. Visit Whitetail’s website for tips, tricks, and advice to plan your first visit. An eight-hour ticket at Whitetail will cost about $75.
Head to one of the country’s most historic towns, Gettysburg, and the nearby Liberty Mountain. The 275-acre ski resort also provides the excitement and laughter of snow tubing and great dining service with McKee’s Tavern and Ike’s Chophouse, and most of its sixteen ski trails are advanced or intermediate level of difficulty. The elevation here is only 1190 feet and its longest run is over 5,000 feet. Lift tickets at Liberty cost $66 for adults. Visit the website to view more information about this ski resort.
