Lions and Tigers, Oh My!
Visitors to the Philadelphia Zoo we'll be able to spot lions and tigers strolling overhead. The new Big Cat Crossing is a mesh-enclosed passageway that runs above the zoo's main visitors' path. Lions, tigers, pumas and other large felines have access to the trail and gives zoo visitors a safari-like experience. The catwalk allows the animals to take in new stimuli while visitors encounter them in unexpected places. Visitors can also see monkeys and small arboreals via a 1,735-foot mesh path with two lookout points, and the Great Ape Trail for gibbons and orangutans. The Philadelphia Zoo is America's first zoo and is also the first U.S. zoo to offer this unique experience campus-wide. The Philadelphia Zoo is open every day of the year except for major holidays.
