Skiing the Poconos: Jack Frost and Big Boulder Ski Area
Find winter fun and excitement in the heart of Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains at Blakeslee’s two-for-one resorts, Jack Frost and Big Boulder Ski Resorts. The first commercial ski resort in PA, Jack Frost Big Boulder was also the location that artificial snowmaking was invented and used for the first time. Besides its position as a paragon of the winter sports world, the two lodges also offer an outdoor grill, bar, and live musical entertainment, as well as a great view of the slopes by the fireplace.
Total, you can find thirty-five trails on these two mountains. Twenty are at Jack Frost and almost half of those are expert ski terrain. Both mountains boast four easy terrain trails for beginners or those seeking a more casual experience. Big Boulder has five terrain parks, while Jack Frost only has two, so pick the mountain best suited to what you’re looking for. View a complete aerial view of the mountains and their trails.
As National Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, January is a great time to learn a new skill that makes wintertime fun, exciting, and adventurous. The Jack Frost and Big Boulder Learning Center offers skiing and snowboarding private lessons for all skill levels with experienced instructors. Private lessons are by appointment only. Visit http://www.jfbb.com/private-lessons/ to book your private lesson today and start skiing!
If you’re more about a relaxing and low-key adventure this winter, purchase tickets for the resorts’ three-hour tubing sessions and slide down the icy chutes. Relax as the 600’ conveyer carpet tows you back up to the top of the slope and ride as many times as you can in your three-hour session.
