Celebrate Memorial Day Weekend in Boalsburg
Memorial Day is a time to honor and remember the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Located just five minutes from the Penn State University campus in the heart of Central Pennsylvania, the village of Historic Boalsburg is widely known as the birthplace of Memorial Day. Boalsburg is the home of the Pennsylvania Military Museum that recounts the story of Commonwealth citizens who served our country in defense of the nation. Numerous exhibits and artifacts document the service of Pennsylvania's men and women through the museum's excellent collection of vehicles, small arms, and a range of other artifacts from the 20th and 21st centuries. The Museum is a focal point of the Military History Trail managed by the PA Historical and Museum Commission. In honor of their service during World War's I and II, the grounds are home to the 28th Division Shrine, created by the 28th Division veterans. An attractive walking path, some larger artifacts and memorials to Pennsylvania's military heritage are found throughout the expansive grounds.
On May 24 and 25, celebrate Memorial Day by joining the festivities of World War II Revisited. On the grounds of the Pennsylvania Military Museum, WWII reenactors gather portraying field life in the European Theater of Operations (1944-45). Open to the public from 10:00am to 4:00pm. A small squad tactical demonstration against German opposition is scheduled for 1:00pm each day. At 3:00pm on Saturday, May 24, watch the "Letters from Home: The Andrew Sisters Tribute Show" that blends the harmonies of the original sisters acts into a brilliantly choreographed show with the dance and comedy reminiscent of the era.
With its quaint shops and restaurants, Boalsburg Village has kept its small town intimacy and historic character for almost 200 years. Book your stay at one of our many cozy and unique Bed and Breakfasts.
